Scouts will be helping out at a soup kitchen in Rotorua over the Christmas period, and will also be learning more about the Maori culture.

Hannah Hebouche, 18, from Titan Air ESU said: “I have enjoyed the time to prepare for the explorer belt trip to New Zealand. The training camps have allowed us to work as a team and prepare for what we are doing out there.

“Fundraising has been done over two years; the days were long but with everyone in the same boat we cheered each other up and got through it as we knew it would be worth it in the end. I am most looking forward to meeting the scouts out there and black water rafting and can’t wait to go.

David Goodwin, expedition manager: “They have worked very hard over the past two years to make this trip their own – they have created the itinerary and decided their main project based on what they want to get out of their Explorer Belt Expedition.

“As a leader they have all worked extremely well together, and from day one it was obvious that they were going to gel well as a team. As departure day approaches the excitement is building to this once in a lifetime opportunity.”
